Six Named AMCC Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Six Penn State Behrend student-athletes were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week to open the 2017-18 season.

In men's cross country, Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville) was the overall winner of the Fisher Invitational hosted by Westminster. He finished with a time of 25:28.28, which was 14 seconds faster than the second place finisher. His mile pace time was 5:08.

The Lions also won the honor on the women's side. Freshman Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA/Franklin) placed third overall at the 6k Fisher Invitational hosted by Westminster. She finished with a time of 23:38.17 in her first race of her career.

Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Ralph (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) was tabbed men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Ralph had two shutouts on the week for the Lions. His first came against DeSales notching three saves on Saturday evening. He tallied another three saves in the championship game against Geneseo on Saturday evening, including a one-handed save from point-blank range just seconds into overtime.

Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) opened the season with a first-place finish at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational on Saturday, shooting a low score of 74. The senior won the playoff on the second hold to break a three-way tie with Javon Trout (Pitt-Greensburg) and Ben Mullins (La Roche) to pick up individual-medalist honors.

In women's tennis, Kelly Miller (Louisville, OH/ Louisville) went undefeated in both doubles and singles in wins over two AMCC opponents this past weekend. She only gave up two game points in singles play at the No. 2 spot and then tallied a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles.

Outside hitter Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) was named to the all-tournament team at the Morrisville State Tournament this weekend for women's volleyball. The junior tallied 24 kills and 23 digs. She led the Lions with 12 kills and nine digs in the win over Norwich. For the week, Henry averaged 2.4 kills, 0.70 assists per set, a .400 hitting percentage, 2.3 digs, and 0.30 blocks per set.
