Three Behrend Lions Named AMCC Athlete of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Three Penn State Behrend student-athletes have been named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.

Junior midfielder Ashlyn Whipple (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) was named Offensive Player of the Week for women's soccer. She scored the game winner in the 87th minute for a 1-0 win over Mt. Aloysius on Saturday. Whipple also added a goal and an assist on Wednesday in an 8-0 victory against Hilbert to finish with two goals and one assist for the week.

Junior defender Andrew Mastovich (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) earned Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer. He led the Lions defense to three wins this week, including two victories over two of the top teams in the AMCC. He was instrumental in holding opponents just eight totals shots on goal all week, while he anchored the defense that tallied two shut outs. 

Freshman Matt Karenbauer (Butler, PA/Knoch) was selected the Swimmer of the Week for helping Behrend defeat Alfred State in its first dual meet of the season. He tallied four wins, including three individual and one relay. Karenbauer had the top times in the 200 butterfly (2:04.80), 100 butterfly (54.75) and 200 IM (2:08.51). Karenbauer was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay.
