Jen O’Lare Trapp was a four-year starter and
three-time All-AMCC choice for the women’s basketball program
from 1997-2001. Her dominance in the paint helped the Lions to
three regular-season AMCC titles and four trips to the AMCC
Championship game, while capturing their first-ever conference
title in 1998-99.
After averaging 4.6 points per game and helping the team post a
19-9 record with earning a bid to the ECAC Tournament as a
freshman, O’Lare put up 11.4 points per game as Behrend won
their first-ever AMCC Championship in 1998-99. She also posted her
best rebounding season with 6.3 boards per game and was named to
the All-AMCC second team.
Relied on as a go-to player, O’Lare continued to dominate all facets of the game from scoring to rebounding, from assists to steals to blocks. She put up 345 points her junior year, averaging 12.8 points per game, making 55 steals and dishing out 45 assists to earn a place on the All-AMCC second team for the second straight season.
In her final season for the Lions, she went through the turns for another banner season. She started out being selected as the AMCC Player of the Week twice, MVP of the Tip-Off Tournament and named to the All-Tournament Team at the Behrend Classic. O’Lare worked her way to a first-team All-AMCC nod and earned the Herb Lauffer Leadership & Scholarship Award. She averaged 14.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game to pave the way for the Lions to reach the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.
A monumental moment in her career came when she made a driving layup at the 16:56 mark in the first half against Bethany to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau, making her the fifth highest scorer in program history at the time. O’Lare suffered a season-ending injury with nine games remaining in the season to finish with 1,043 career points.
O’Lare ranks in the top 10 in five categories on the all-time list, including second in free-throws made (283), third in free-throw attempts (415), seventh in field-goals made (377), eighth in scoring (1,043) and 10th in field-goal percentage (.467).
O’Lare resides in Erie, Pa. with her husband Jason and twin girls, Tess and Haley.
