2001-02 Baseball

The 2002 Behrend baseball team made school history by capturing their first ever Eastern College Athletic Conference championship.  The Lions defeated Delaware Valley and Franklin & Marshall en route to taking home the Southern Region Championship.

The Behrend baseball program created new standards for success that year.  They won a school record 35 games under the leadership of head coach Paul Benim, a record that still stands today.

The Lions were led by team MVP Jake Boyle and Most Valuable Pitcher Ryan Seyler.  Jason Karas and Mike Couts took home Most Impoved Player honors.  Tony Azzato and Chris Shearer helped the defense while earning the Golden Glove Award.

The sqaud’s successful year has helped to make Behrend baseball one of the most successful Division III programs in the country.  The values of hard work and dedication have created a program that continues to build off of the achievements of the 2002 team.
