Michelle Newland Scott was a dominant and hard-nosed midfielder for the women’s soccer team from 2002-06. She went on to earn All-AMCC honors all four years, while being named Team MVP in 2003. Newland led the Lions to a pair of appearances in the ECAC Tournament and posted back-to-back 20-point seasons in her junior and senior years.

Newland was unquestionably an outstanding and skilled soccer player over her four-year career with the Lions. She started in all but three contests, including all 20 games as a freshman in 2002. Newland was recognized for her excellence and courageous play by being named a Second Team All-AMCC selection, a rare feat for a newcomer.

In her sophomore season, she found the back of the net more often with seven goals and added three assists to rank fourth on the team with 17 points. The Lions posted a 12-7-1 record and advanced to the AMCC championship game after defeating Pitt-Greensburg in the semifinals on penalty kicks. Newland garnered Team MVP and All-AMCC second-team honors.

Newland scored nine goals and handed out two assists during her junior year, helping Behrend improve to 14-6-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference. Newland, an All-AMCC selection for a third time, made her first postseason appearance and the program’s fourth trip to the ECAC Tournament.

As a senior captain, the midfielder tallied eight goals and four assists to post her second straight 20-point season. Behrend did not lose a conference game and advanced to the ECAC Tournament for a second straight season. Newland finished the season tied for 10th in the AMCC in points and goals, earning All-Conference first team accolades once again.

Newland currently ranks ninth in career goals (26) and ninth in career points (66), while sitting 11th in career assists (14).
