1991-92 Softball

The Penn State Behrend women’s softball team compiled a 22-6 record during their 1992 campaign while breaking a number of records along the way. The team also captured the first-ever ECAC Championship after squeezing their whole regular season into 24 days.

Finishing the regular season with an impressive 19-5 record, the Lions headed to Dover, Delaware, to compete in the ECAC tournament. Behrend cruised past the host Wesley in the first round, 11-1, before edging Wilkes 1-0 and earning a spot in the championship against Rampo. In game one, Behrend fell by a score of 3-1. The Lions put together a four-run fourth inning in game two to lift them to a 7-6 victory to be crowned ECAC Champions.

Karen Strait finished the season with 26 RBIs, placing her 11th in the country. Kim Boyd was fifth in the country in drawing walks with 23 and the team finished out the season with a .961 fielding percentage, fifth best in the nation. The team currently holds the record for most hits in a game (34), runs in a game (47), and are third all-time in win percentage (.786).
