Clay Altemose

How many Behrend athletes can boast that they were a 21-time AMCC Champion and a First Team All-Conference honoree throughout all four years of college?

Clay Altemose can.

As a freshman, Altemose showed he would be a four-year force for the swimming and diving team, capturing two individual events at the AMCC Championships and being voted Newcomer of the Year.

Altemose was just getting started. He also earned Team MVP and then Scholar All-American status and  eventually, the coveted Behrend Male Scholar-Athlete of Year Award.

Altemose was a key ingredient in the team’s success and the true definition of a student-athlete.

Altemose was a three-time AMCC All-Academic selection and a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American honorable mention. He helped the Lions to four consecutive AMCC Championships from 2009-13.

After breaking records in his sophomore year, he recorded new marks as a junior in the 200 Free, 400 Free, 200 MR and 400 MR. That same year, he was an AMCC Champion in five events and set the school record in the 100 Butterfly.

Breaking records became a hobby for Altemose.

In his senior year, he swam on three winning relays at the AMCC Championships, two of which broke the pool, AMCC meet and AMCC open records. Altemose also swam on the 200 free relay, setting more records. He finished with six All-Conference honors and was named AMCC Champion in the 100 and 200 butterfly.

Altemose continues to hold four records, including three relay times and the 100 butterfly. He also holds the AMCC record in the 200 free relay set back on February 14, 2013.
