Women's Bowling Competes in First-Ever Match

ERIE, Pa. – In the opening bowling match in program history, the Penn State Behrend women's bowling team fell 3-1 against Thiel on Friday night at Eastland Bowling Alley.

In traditional match play, the Lions (0-1) lost games one and two by scores of 754-599 and 659-575 respectively, but battled back to win game three 620-609. Behrend was defeated in total pins knocked down by the score 2022-1784.

Freshman Hali Hartley (Seven Fields, PA/Mars Area High School) led the Lions in the first match of the season knocking down a total of 404 pins while also tallying a team-high and game-high score of 159 in the game three win.

In game one, Bobbi Doubet (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs) set the charge for Behrend after rolling a 150. Hartley and Becky Patterson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) finished in second and third for the Lions with scores of 138 and 136 respectively.

Patterson was able to continue her play throughout the second game, ending with a total of 135. Bayleigh Adams (Manchester, NJ/Manchester) contributed by finishing in second on the team with a round of 133.

The Lions found their rhythm in the third game. With the help of sophomore Hollyrae Hanson (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga), all five Behrend women bowled above 100 points while also combining for 11 strikes in the game.

The Lions will return to action November 4th when they takes on the Medaille Mavericks on the road. The match time is still to be determined.
