Lions Battle in Three Close Games Against the Hawks

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's bowling team fell 4-0 in three close games against Hilbert on Friday afternoon at Eastland Bowling Alley.

In traditional match play, the Lions lost in a tight game one by the score of 615-600. Bayleigh Adams (Manchester, NJ/Manchester) led the charge for Behrend by bowling a team-high 143. Hali Hartley (Seven Fields, PA/Mars Area High School) was not far behind with the score of 135. However, sophomore Alicia Alguire rolled a 169 to give the Hawks a win in the first game.

In game two, Behrend bowled its highest score of the day, knocking down 711 pins. Hartley found her rhythm and rolled a 176 in the game. Becky Patterson (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) contributed for the Lions in game two by finishing with a score of 153. Freshman Jennifer Roback stole the show though, bowling a final score of 190, helping Hilbert defeat Behrend 748-711.

The Lions dropped a nail biter 649-640 in the third game. Per usual, Hartley set the pace by knocking down 179 pins. Bobbi Doubet (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs) rolled her best game of the day with 140 while Patterson was just behind with a 139. Alguire, on the other hand, bowled three consecutive strikes to start off the game, ending with a final score of 184. Roback gave Hilbert the extra push needed, rolling a 174 to close out the day.

The Hawks were awarded another point for being the total pin fall victory, knocking down 2012 pins while the Lions were not far behind with a total of 1951.

The Lions will return to action after the New Year when they matchup with Medaille on January 16. The match will be played at Eastland Bowling alley with a 7 p.m. start time.
