Benke Named Head Women's Bowling Coach

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has selected Steven Benke to coach the women's bowling team for the 2019-20 season. He becomes the second head coach in program history. The Lions will be entering their third year of competition this fall.

Benke comes to Behrend after a successful seven years as the girls bowling coach at McDowell High School. He has led the Trojans to five Metro League Championships and the Western PA Regional Title once. Benke mentored five State Singles Qualifiers, while being named McDowell Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

"I am excited to have Coach Benke join our athletic department," said Brian Streeter, director of athletics at Penn State Behrend. "He will bring a lot of enthusiasm to our program. His success at the High School level will benefit him as he steps into the head coaching role here at Penn State Behrend."

Benke, a 1988 graduate of Gannon University, studied communications and English. He is also a residential assistant at L'Arche in Erie.
