Steven Benke is entering his fifth season at the helm. He became the second head coach in program history during the 2019-20 season. The Lions will be entering their eighth year of competition this fall. Benke has led the team to the AMCC Championships the last three years.

Benke comes to Behrend after a successful seven years as the girls bowling coach at McDowell High School. He has led the Trojans to five Metro League Championships and the Western PA Regional Title once. Benke mentored five State Singles Qualifiers, while being named McDowell Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

"I am excited to have Coach Benke join our athletic department," said Brian Streeter, director of athletics at Penn State Behrend. "He will bring a lot of enthusiasm to our program. His success at the High School level will benefit him as he steps into the head coaching role here at Penn State Behrend."

Benke, a 1988 graduate of Gannon University, studied communications and English. He is also a residential assistant at L’Arche in Erie.
