Baseball Defeats Susquehanna

FORT PIERCE, Fl.  – Mike Moyer went the distance and only allowed one earned run on five hits to help the Penn State Behrend baseball team finish the Spring Break trip with a 9-1 win over Susquehanna on Saturday morning.

With the victory, the Lions (5-3) return home on a two-game winning streak. Geoff Lang went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a triple.

Dan Wing led the Crusaders (3-6) with two hits and one run. Susquehanna had six pitchers on the day with starter Keith Needham getting the loss with five and two thirds innings of work.

Behrend plated three runs in the first inning for the early lead. Ryan Kragnes singled, advanced to second on an error, third on a single by Ed Kessler and home on another error. Harry Latta drove in Kessler with a single and Ryan Geibel's hit brought in Matt Parnes to make it 3-0.

Another run put the Lions up 4-0 in the second. Susquehanna got its only run in the fifth, while Behrend got one more in the sixth and four in the bottom of the eighth. In the eighth, Lang tripled to right field to score Matt Bittner and Kessler. Blake Pavlick and Lang also scored in the inning.

Behrend tallied 13 hits with no errors, while Susquehanna committed four errors.

The Lions return to action on March 19 at Waynesburg for a doubleheader. Game one starts at 1 p.m.
