Bobcats Walkoff Homerun Completes Sweep Over Baseball

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team took on Pitt-Greensburg Friday afternoon, falling twice with a 4-3 and 6-5 walkoff loss.

After falling behind 2-0 in the second game of the double header, the Lions (15-12, 7-3 AMCC) got on the board with a two-run sixth inning to knot the game at 2-all. With the bases loaded, Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) singled up the middle to bring in two Behrend runs.

The following inning, the Lions added three more runs to take their first lead of the day. Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) got things going by drawing a walk followed by Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) who got hit by a pitch. Mason McGuire (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) set up a bases loaded situation with a sacrifice bunt that the Bobcats (12-9, 4-4 AMCC) failed to register an out on.

Two batters later, David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) hit a ground ball that led to two runs being scored after the third baseman sailed his throw over the catcher's head. Justin Foreman (Oakdale, PA/South Fayette) then stepped to the plate and hit a sac fly to bring in the fifth run.

Greensburg scored two in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Lions lead to one. In the bottom of the ninth, trailing by a run, the Bobcats hit back to back homeruns to walk off against Behrend and complete the sweep.

Alex Hajduk (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) got the start and pitched 4.2 innings. He struck out four while giving up eight hits and two earned runs.

The Lions fell behind early in game one after the Bobcats hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. They added another solo shot in the third.

Behrend added a run in the second, fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to overcome the Greensburg lead.

Boehme went 2-for-2 in game one with one RBI and one run scored. Ryan Hamm (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) finished with a 2-for-4 performance at the dish.

Behrend will look to get back on the winning track this Tuesday when they host Allegheny for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
