Behrend Defeats Fredonia to Steal Back I-90 Cup

FREDONIA, NY. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team re-gained possession of the I-90 cup Monday evening with a 15-7 road victory over Fredonia.

The Lions (17-16) jumped on the Blue Devils (16-17) early to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the first, Kyle Lewis (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) led off with a single and Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) followed with a single of his own. Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) drove in the first run of the game with a double, moving Bohman to third and scoring Lewis.

Mason McGuire (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) came to the plate two batters later and drove in two runs to complete the three-run first inning.

Fredonia then scored the next seven runs, four in the third and three in the fourth, to take a 7-3 lead heading in to the fifth. However, Behrend cut their deficit to one after another three-run inning in the top half of the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits and one Blue Devil error.

The following inning, the Lions took the lead for good, scoring four runs to pull ahead 10-7. Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) led off with a single and then came around to score on a Bohman double. Bohman then crossed the plate when Boehme hit a double of his own. Boehme then moved to third on a passed ball and came in to score with a single from McGuire. Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) finished the scoring with a single to drive in McGuire.

Ben Ramey (Export, PA/Franklin regional) earned his first collegiate win on the mound for Behrend. The freshman righty tossed 4.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just three hits and striking out seven.

The Lions exploded for a season-high 22 hits in the game, including seven starters recording multiple hits.

McGuire and Bergstrom both finished going 4-for-6 from the dish. McGuire finished with a team-high five RBI while scoring twice.

Boehme drove in four runs and scored three times in the game while batting .750 (3-for-4) on the day.

Bohman and Lewis each scored three times and recorded two hits.

Behrend will complete the regular season this week with doubleheaders against D'Youville and La Roche. The Lions will face D'Youville on Wednesday in Buffalo, NY beginning at 2 p.m.
