Behrend Baseball Announces Team Awards

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team announced their team awards, after taking runner-up in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and finishing with a 25-19 overall record.

Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) was named Most Valuable Player after a stellar season for the Lions. The sophomore earned four postseason honors including ECAC All-Star North Region first team, D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams, and first team All-AMCC choice after leading the Lions in nearly every offensive category. 

Sophomore Kyle Lewis (McMurray, PA/Peterson Township) earned Most Improved Player. He tallied 26 hits and scored 15 runs in 32 games played this season after only appearing in 18 games and knocking in two hits his freshman campaign.

Ben Ramey (Export, PA/Franklin Regional) was selected Rookie of the Year for making five appearances on the mound, collecting a win and a save in nine innings pitched for a 3.00 ERA.

Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) picked up Most Valuable Pitcher honors. He was an AMCC first-team choice and All-Region second-team selection. The left-handed hurler made 12 appearances on the mound this season and finished with a team-leading six wins. He tallied a 3.05 ERA, giving up 22 earned runs in 65 innings of work. Myer threw four complete games and fanned 50 batters.

Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) earned the Golden Glove glove for his outstanding defensive play during the season. At catcher, the junior made 93 putouts in 108 total chances. He also had 11 assists with four errors for a .963 fielding percentage.  

Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) earned the Herb Lauffer Leadership & Scholarship, while Jack Herzing (St. Mary's PA/Elk County Catholic) was chosen for the The Spirit and Hustle Award. Both seniors helped lead the team and were instrumental to the success of the 2017 season.
