Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game to Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team was taken down by Allegheny 17-5 in non-conference action Friday afternoon.

The Gators (12-14) exploded for 11 first-inning runs that helped seal an early double-digit victory over the Lions (14-10).

In the bottom of the first, Allegheny rattled off four doubles, three singles, and a triple that were instrumental in posting a commanding 11-0 lead after one. They added a pair runs in the second inning that pushed the score to 13-0 after the second inning.

With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Behrend got on the board. A Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) walk sent Dom Charletta (West Newton, PA/Yough) home from third. The Lions scored a second run in the inning on a sacrifice fly from David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) that brought in John Brittner (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley). Boehme's RBI was his 35th of the season.

However, the Gators responded with a pair of runs of their own in the fifth.

Behrend added two more runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth, ending the final score 17-5.

Brittner went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Mason McGuire (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Sada each went 1-for-2. Sada extends his hitting streak to 10-straight games.

Behrend looks to get back on track at Penn State Altoona Saturday in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) double header scheduled for 1 and 3:30 p.m.
