Herzing Continues Career With Eastside Diamond Hoppers

UTICA, Mich. - Former Penn State Behrend Lions baseball player Jack Herzing (St. Mary's, PA/Elk County Catholic) signed a professional baseball contract to play for the Eastside Diamond Hoppers in the United Shore Professional Baseball League on Tuesday, June 12.

"We are thrilled for Herzing," said head coach Paul Benim. "Jack is an incredible worker and a terrific talent. He earned this opportunity."

Herzing is a 6-1 left-handed power arm who had a special senior season for the Behrend Lions in 2018.  He was named to the D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region Team and was selected to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) first team after leading the league in strikeouts (109), innings pitched (69.1) and complete games (6). Herzing averaged 14.15 strikeouts per nine innings to rank third in Division III statistics. He also set a new school record for career strikeouts with 296 K's.

Herzing is the first Behrend Baseball player to sign a professional contract since Chad Zurat agreed to a free-agent deal with the Colorado Rockies in 2014.
