Behrend Takes Back I-90 Cup; Myers Throws Complete Game

ERIE, Pa.  – The Penn State Behrend baseball team took back the I-90 Cup and earned their seventh straight win with 2-1 and 11-10 victories over Fredonia in non-conference action on Sunday.

Game One
Scores: Penn State Behrend 2, Fredonia 1

Key Moments

* The opener proved to be a pitcher's dual between undefeated Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) and Blue Devils Luke Kuczewski
* Myers went the distance in a complete-game victory, striking out for and allowing five hits and one earned run
* Senior Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) led with a double, triple and two runs for the Lions
* Back-to-back triples in the bottom of the fifth put the Lions ahead for good
* Sada tripled to left field and John Brittner (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) drove him in with a three bagger to center
* The same duo got Behrend even with Fredonia in the third. Sada smacked a double down left-field line and Brittner got him home with a single up the middle
* Fredonia got on the board first a two-out single up the middle by Kole Brink to score William Clifford for a 1-0 in the top of the second
* The Blue Devils hit a two-out double in the top of the seventh but with a runner at third Joshua Wagner (South Park, PA/South Park) got the putout with an assist from Sada to secure the win

Key Moments:

* Behrend jumped out to a 7-1 lead with five runs in the first inning and two in the second
* The first inning featured four stolen bases, three hits and five runs
* With two outs showing, the Bowen brothers each hit RBI singles before Donny Watters (Perry, OH/Perry) doubled to score Zack Bowen (Plum Borough, PA/Serra Catholic) to make it 5-1
* Fredonia scored in the third and then made a comeback in the fourth with six runs for a quick 8-7 lead
* Behrend took the lead for good in the sixth with four more runs. Brittner scored the eventual game-winning run on an RBI single from Wagner
* The Blue Devils had a two-out single in the top of the seventh that scored two runs to cut the lead to 11-10
* Jacob Lindow (Bridgeville, PA/Chartiers Valley) came in relief for two innings and recorded the win, while Ryan Weaver (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) gets his first save of the season in the seventh inning

Noteworthy:

* Sada has 76 career doubles and is six away from breaking the NCAA Division III career record for doubles. Sam Dexter (2013-16) of Southern Maine holds the record of 81 in 194 games played
