ERIE, Pa. -The Behrend men’s basketball team will head to Brazil looking for its first taste of competition since its ECAC Championship win over Alvernia on March 7, 2010.

On August 9, the Lions will depart on an eight-day/seven-night tour of Brazil’s most historic cities including Guaruja, Sao Bento do Sapucai and Paraty. The team will compete in three contests against Brazilian teams and co-host two basketball clinics during their travels.

All-Conference players Justin Kovac and Chris Saltzman will lead Behrend into their first international showcase since 2002 season when the blue and white ventured to Spain. The squad consists of 10 returning players and will be accompanied by coaches and family. “This is a great experience for our players and coaching staff”, said head coach David Niland. “Previous trips have benefited our team.”

The Behrend men’s basketball team will chronicle the tour with various “blogs”, which will be posted online at psblions.com throughout the trip.

This past year the Lions won the ECAC Southern Championship and finished up the season with an overall record of 22-8. Head Coach Dave Niland also reached 300 career wins in a 67-48 victory over Penn State Altoona on February 23, 2010.
