Golfers in First Place After Day One at AMCC Championships

WARREN, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team shot a team-low 295 to lead the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Sunday at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club.

The Lions shot 13 strokes below their average to take a 17-stroke lead over second-place Penn State Altoona (312) with their best showing at the conference championships at 295. Medaille finished third with a 313 total followed by Pitt-Bradford in fourth with 314.

The reigning AMCC Champion, Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst) and freshman Jack Perfett (Moon Township, PA/Moon) tied for first with Cory Donoghue of Medaille with a 72 on the day. Sculley and Perfett not only ended with the same score but they also shot the same on the front nine (36) and the back nine (36).

Behrend had three players in the top 10. Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) had the next best score of the round with a 74 to tie for fourth with four others. He tallied identical scores 37-37 for the front and back to sit two strokes behind the leaders.

JT Kuchnicki (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) and Noah Kunst (Kittanning, PA/Kittanning) are 12th and 13th, respectively, just missing the top 10 mark. Kuchnicki carded a 38 on the front and 39 on the back for a 77 to stand alone at 12th place. Kunst is tied for 13th with a 79 (39-40).

The Lions are looking for their seventh straight title and ninth overall tomorrow on day two of the AMCC Championships. Action will commence at 9 a.m.
