Golf Places Sixth at Mercyhurst Spring Invitational

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team finished sixth out of eight teams at the two-day Mercyhurst Spring Invitational held at Lake View Country Club on Sunday and Monday.

The Lions fired a 322 on both days to card a final 644. Humber won the invitational with a 617 total (310-307). Allegheny shaved 25 strokes off its score from day one to go from sixth to second with 623 and Mercyhurst dropped from first to third on day two with a 625 score (309-316).

Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst) led the first day with a 78 (+6) to sit in seventh place before shooting the same on day two for a 156 total and finish tied for ninth overall.

Coming in second on the team and tied for 17th was Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst). He carded an 82 and 78 for a 160 total. JT Kuchnicki (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) was able to take four strokes off day one (83) to shoot a 79 on the second day for a 162 score for the invitational to tie for 22nd.

Placing fourth on the team and tying for 28th overall, Noah Kunst (Kittanning, PA/Kittaning) tallied a 166 total (79-87). Jack Perfett (Moon Township, Pa/Moon) rounded out the "A" team with a 181 score (89-92) for 42nd overall.

The "B" team carded a 322 on day one and 336 on the final day for a 668 score to place seventh.

Mark Peters (Mercer, PA/Mercer) led the squad with a 164 (80-84) to place 26th overall.

Zac McCue (Prospect, PA/Slippery Rock) and Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) finished two strokes apart. McCue registered a 167 (83-84) and Shindledecker posted a 169 (81-88) to place 32nd and 34th, respectively.

 

Daniel Thomas (Moon Township, PA/Moon) ended with a 171 (88-83) for 37th, while Teddy Russell (Erie, PA/McDowell) recorded a 180 (95-85) for 41st place.

 

Behrend returns to action on May 15 at the NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.
