Behrend Falls Short to Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team lost to host Ohio Northern 3-0 in the second game of the weekend tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears offense struck early for three goals within the first 20 minutes of the contest and used a strong defensive effort to stifle the Behrend offense.  The Lions (1-2-1) were held scoreless one day after scoring three goals in the first round match.

Ohio Northern generated 12 shots on goal compared to just four for Behrend.  The Polar Bears got on the board early at the 4:13 mark by Jeremy Barnes' third goal of the year.  Less than 10 minutes later, Chris Matejka chipped in a goal to give Ohio Northern a 2-0 lead.  The quick strike Polar Bear offense netted another goal seven minutes later to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Ohio Northern defense was too much for the Lions to overcome in the second half despite firing 10 shots. The Behrend defense held strong, keeping the Polar Bears scoreless with senior goal keeper Chris Bolea (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) tallying a season best nine saves in the loss.

The Lions will be back on the pitch Wednesday at 4 p.m. to face Grove City at Family First Sports Park.
