Jake Gamble, Eric Hackworth, and Will Cole, members of the Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team, have been selected to play for the Erie Admirals S.C. in the National Premier Soccer League this summer.
Wow! What an unforgettable experience for our sons. We thoroughly enjoyed it as well. In nine short days we squeezed in Barcelona, Valencia, Peniscola, Toledo, and Madrid. Tapas has become a regular part of our dining experience.
After a visit of coastal Valencia, the team headed inland to the metropolitan city of Madrid. The Spanish capital has a strip reminiscent of Times Square, which is where the hotel was located.
After a long night comprising of a soccer game and then a group of guys staying up to watch the pens game, the team met together in the lobby for our normal Spainish breakfast.
All in all, today was a transition day for the team. A midnight curfew the night before gave players a solid night of sleep before a majority of the team got up early to visit the touristy areas of Barcelona to do some of the more stereotypical shopping and site seeing.
Day 2 started off with a trip to the beach with the whole team. The walk was around an hour or so and along the way we saw many beautiful buildings and many interesting natives.
After a greatly anticipated take off from Pittsburgh, we landed in Atlanta where we connected to Barcelona. We safely arrived in Barcelona via our flight from Atlanta, GA. The eight and a half hour flight, along with a six hour time difference, made for a surprisingly short feeling flight with no difficulty.
In one week, the Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team will embark on their fifth international trip and first-ever journey to historical Spain for a nine-day excursion from May 6-15.
