Houghton Stifles Lions

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team fell to Houghton 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions (11-2) were unable to get much offense going, losing for the first time since their September 1 opener.

The two teams matched each other in the first half, playing to a scoreless 0-0 tie at the break.  The Behrend defense stepped up to keep the Highlanders off the board after being outshot 6-4.

With the second half underway, the Lions came out fast.  Behrend managed to get four shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net.  It was not until the 62-minute mark where Houghton was able to get on the board.  Tyler Ashley fired a shot from the box after a deflection to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.

Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) led the Lions' offense with three shots, including two on goal in the final 20 minutes but was turned away by the stingy Houghton defense.

Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) made four saves in net for Behrend.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday.  Behrend will host Bethany at 3 p.m.
