Lions Top Bethany in Herb Lauffer Memorial First Round Action

ERIE, Pa. - Nick Stewart (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) scored the go-ahead goal at the 65:37 mark of the second half to help Penn State Behrend defeat Bethany 3-1 in the first round of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.  

The win came in the 800th game in the history of the program.

The Lions got on the board first when Anton Benedikt (Madison, NJ/ Madison) scored following a goalkeeper miscue. Stewart's goal made it 2-1 before Peter Brower (Rochester, NY/ McQuaid Jesuit) closed the scoring with a line drive spin-and-fire shot at the 71:21 mark of the second half.

Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/ Norwin) and Jimmy Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/ Upper St. Clair) tallied assists for the Lions (1-0), who won in the first night game ever at Behrend Field.

Arkangelo James scored the only goal for Bethany (0-1) on a first period penalty kick.

The Lions will take on Baldwin Wallace Saturday in the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament Championship Game at 7:30 p.m..
