Lions Shutout Mounties, 1-0

ERIE, Pa. – Eric Hackworth (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) scored his second goal of the season to lift the Penn State Behrend men's soccer team past Mt. Aloysius 1-0 on a brisk, wet Saturday afternoon at Behrend Field.

On a day when Behrend honored seniors Bill Elchik (Moon, PA/Moon Area), Jake Szul (North East, PA/North East), Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/North Huntingdon), Peter Brower (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit), Garrett Fiscus (Russel, PA/Eisenhower) as well as Hackworth, the Lions did not disappoint, coming through with one of their best defensive efforts of the season.

Hackworth's goal came just 5:46 into the match. Kyle Coonelly (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) put his foot into a beautiful corner kick that Hackworth headed directly into the upper left corner of the net. It was Coonelly's third assist of the 2013 campaign.

Behrend goalkeeper Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) blanked the opposition for the sixth time this year, improving his GAA to 0.95. Each of the Lions previous four wins have come by way of the shutout.

The victory pushed Behrend to 11-4-1 overall and 5-1 in the AMCC. The teams were forced to overcome a light but steady rain that began shortly after the National Anthem and did not let up.

The Lions will visit Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday, October 23 at 1 p.m.
