Bethany Converts PK to Defeat Behrend

BETHANY, Wv. – Adam Franko scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to lead Bethany past Penn State Behrend 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Franko converted a penalty kick off a Lion (3-2) hand-ball in the box, slotting the 12 yard shot into the side pocket of the net to help the Bisons (4-2) avoid overtime and collect the win.

Behrend rallied back from a 2-0 deficit in the second half. At the 57:23 mark, Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) led the charge for the Lions, burying a goal off a through-ball pass from Aaron Harris (Washington, PA/Franklin Regional), making it four consecutive games with a goal.

Less than three minutes later, Dziadosz dribbled at the goalie, cut the ball back and crossed it to an open Harris where he notched his third goal of the season, tying the game at 2-all.

Behrend and Bethany battled for the remainder of the second half as each team had opportunities to score another goal. With two minutes left the game, an unintentional hand-ball occurred against the Lions to give the Bisons a penalty kick to win the game.

The Lions are back in action on Saturday night at home against Allegheny at 7:00 p.m.
