Men's Soccer Takes Down Altoona 6-1

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team won its matchup against Penn State Altoona 6-1 Saturday afternoon, helping Behrend remain undefeated in conference play.

Behrend's (9-4, 4-0 AMCC) offensive firepower seemed to be too much for Altoona (3-10, 2-3 AMCC) to handle, burying three goals in both halves of the match.

Ryan Maurer (Cranberry Twp. PA/Seneca Valley) got the Lions on the board early when he scored his first career collegiate goal five minutes into the game off an assist from Matt Baleno (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum).

Less than five minutes later, Maurer floated a long ball downfield to Richard Blanchard (Eire, PA/Cathedral Prep) where he finished a shot past the goalie to make the score 2-0.

At the 33:43 mark, Ryan Segar (Athens, PA/Athens Area) gave the Behrend a 3-0 lead when he headed the ball past the goalkeeper from an Andrew Mastovich (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) cross. Altoona found its only goal of the game two minutes later off of Seth Murrelle shot five yards away from the net.

Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) dished out a pair of assists in the second half five minutes apart from one another, giving Behrend its fourth and fifth goals of the game.

With only seven minutes remaining, Cole Ferguson (Mars, PA/Mars) concluded the scoring for the Lions after firing a shot into the back of the goal.

Behrend is back in action on Tuesday to take on Hilbert at home for a 5 p.m. start.
