Four Named AMCC Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Four Penn State Behrend soccer student-athletes were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.

On the men's side, sophomore Richard Blanchard (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) was named AMCC Offensive Player of the Week while Ryan Maurer (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) was chosen Defensive Player of the Week.

Blanchard scored the game-winning goal in the AMCC Championship game in the 76th minute, helping the Lions defeat Medaille for the AMCC men's soccer title. Blanchard also had one assist in the AMCC semifinal against Franciscan on Wednesday.  Maurer helped guide Behrend to the AMCC Tournament title, scoring a pair of goals against Franciscan in the AMCC Semifinals and adding a goal in the AMCC title game against Medaille. Both Blanchard and Maurer were named to the AMCC All-Tournament team. 

For the women, Brenna McGuire (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) and Ava Michael (State College, PA/State College) were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

McGuire scored three goals in two games, including the game-winner in the AMCC Championship game to help the Lions capture their eighth straight title. She scored two insurance goals in the AMCC semifinals and then buried a shot in the 66th minute to break open the scoreless battle in the title game. McGuire was selected to the AMCC All-Tournament Team. Michael was instrumental in a pair of shutouts during the AMCC Tournament, holding Altoona to five shots and Mt. Aloysius to just three.
