Men's Swimming and Diving Wins Two Straight

ERIE, Pa. – Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) won three events, including one relay and two individual, to help the Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team past Washington & Jefferson 120-97 on Saturday in the Junker Center Pool.

Simon won the 50 free (21.65) and the 200 backstroke (1:58.84), while swimming the opening leg of the 200 medley relay to lead the Lions to their second straight win.

Simon, Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge), Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Everett Sargent (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) made up the winning team in 1:36.44.

In addition to the relay win, Altemose was the top swimmer in the 200 butterfly. He posted a time of 2:03.45 and Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) was a close second in 2:04.25. Mitcheltree was a winner on his own, claiming the 1000 free (10:34.69).

Freshman Drew Werner (Hampton, PA/Hampton) and Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) also earned the top points in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, respectively. Werner won the 200 in 1:51.95 and later earned second in the 500 freestyle (5:11.06). Myers tallied a time of 50.64 in the 100 for first place and Sargent was runner up in 51.21.

Although Simon won the 50 free, Javier Solivan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/UHS) came in second  with a time of 22.90.

Eric Peirce (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) led Behrend in the 400 IM. He touched in 4:#3.45 for second and Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin) was third by two seconds (4:35.80).

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Pitt-Bradford. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
