Third Straight Win For Men's Swimming and Diving

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team continues their winning ways with a 151-119 victory over Pitt-Bradford in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Javier Solivan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/UHS) were double individual winners on the day. Solivan also joined Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo Ridge), Daniel Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) and Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) to win the 400 medley relay.

Solivan had the top time in the 200 free (1:51.61) and the 200 breaststroke (2:21.79). Mitcheltree led the Lions in the 200 butterfly (2:05.68) and the 500 free (5:15.06). Eric Peirce (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) was a close second to Solivan in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.84), while Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin) was third for Behrend in the 200 free (1:52.71).

In the 1000 free, Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Eldridge) had the fastest time in 11:08.29 for Behrend. Simon and Will Belsterling (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) were second and third, respectively.

Gabe Romano (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) swam 57.96 to win the 100 backstroke, before clocking in a time of 2:08.59 for second in the 200 backstroke.

The Lions grabbed the top four spots in the 50 free, led by Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) in 23:56. Zach Orosz (Erie, PA/McDowell) touched the wall in 26.75 for second, Belsterling came in third (26.81) and Dan Zora (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) took fourth (27.72).

Andrew Neder (Erie, PA/Fairview) earned scores of 162.85 and 232.50 on the three-meter board for first place.

Everett Sargent (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) missed first in the 100 breaststroke by .23 seconds with a time of 1:04.48 and Pritchard tallied third (1:05.02).

Although the Panthers won the 100 free, Behrend took the next three spots led by Drew Werner (Hampton, PA/Hampton). Werner touched in 51.04, Sargent in 51.24 and Steve Torre (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) in 51.26.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at Mt. Union. Meet begins at 1 p.m.
