St. Vincent Holds Off Men's Swimming

LATROBE, Pa. - Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) set the Saint Vincent pool record in the 100 backstroke, but the Behrend men's swimming and diving team fell to the Bobcats, 168-94, in non-conference action on Saturday.

Simon won the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.72, breaking the previous pool record of 51.34. The senior was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay that clocked in with a time of 1:38.74. He was joined by Jacob Ekas (Erie, PA/McDowell), Victor Nguyen (San Jose, CA/Evergreen Valley) and Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin). Simon tallied his second individual win of the day in the 50 freestyle (22.13).

Ekas was second to Simon in the 100 backstroke in 55.89, while Nguyen was second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.10. Roth led Behrend in the 500 freestyle, winning in 5:06.01 and also took third in the 200 butterfly (2:03.87).

In the 200 backstroke, Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Ekas were second and third, respectively. Kost had the best time for the Lions in 2:06.65 and Ekas followed with 2:07.44. Kost was also second in the 200 IM (2:08.09). In the next event, Eric Matteson (Corry, PA/Corry) tallied a time of 2:22.31 in the 200 breaststroke and Nguyen touched in third by .50 seconds (2:22.81).

The team of Simon, Roth, Elder and Matt Myers (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) ended the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle. The quartet was beat by less than a second with a time of 1:30.54.

Behrend returns to action on Feb. 11-14 at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships hosted by Grove City.
