Lions Down Chatham in Men's Swimming and Diving

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won nine of the first 10 events to defeat Chatham 155-46 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Bauer (Northampton, PA/Northampton) had three wins on the day, two individual and one relay, while Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) picked up a pair of wins for the Lions. Diver Matthew Kuchcinski (North East, PA/North East) won the one-meter board with a score of 237.86 and the three-meter board (209.55).

Bauer, Patterson, Noah Babik (Penn Township, PA/Penn Trafford) and Steven Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) were the four that made up the opening winning 200 medley relay team (1:43.63).

Bauer then won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.21) and then was nine seconds faster than second place in the 200 backstroke with a first-place time of 2:05.51.

Patterson had the top time in the 200 breaststroke, touching in 2:22.18.

After the 200 medley relay, Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) won the 1000 free in 11:11.45 and Bauer was second in 11:19.29.

David Ewing (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 1:54.89. Branden McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) was second in 1:58.33 and Colin Torrence (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) finished in third (2:15.39).

Jacob Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) was the first to touch in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.87 and then Babik was third for Behrend (1:02.78).

In the 200 butterfly, Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin) was two seconds faster than Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) for the win. Watterson touched in 2:15.35 and Fischer clocked in at 2:17.45.

Fischer then won the 100 freestyle in 51.19, followed by McWilliams in third (53.07) and Nathan Wagner (Ypsilanti, MI/Lincoln) was fourth (54.61).

Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) paced the Lions in the 50 free in 23.62 for second and Dillon Scheidemantle (Mars, PA/Pine-Richland) narrowly came in third 23.78.

Behrend swam exhibition in the final four events.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Baldwin Wallace in the Junker Pool. Meet time is 1 p.m.
