Patterson Leads Men's Swimming and Diving Past Baldwin Wallace

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team captured their third dual-meet victory of the season with a 188-98 win over Baldwin Wallace in non-conference action on Saturday at the Junker Center.

The Lions won 12 events led by Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) with four wins, including three individual and one relay. Patterson first won the 200 free in 1:52.40, before touching first in the 200 backstroke and then winning the 500 freestyle (5:02.25).

Patterson also joined Michael Bauer (Northampton, PA/Northampton), Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) and Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) for the winning 200 free relay in 1:28.87.

The junior led a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 free and the 200 backstroke. David Ewing (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) was second in the 500 free (5:07.79) and Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) was third (5:23.64). In the 200 back Bauer was runner-up in 2:02.85 and Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin) was third (2:08.48).

Bauer, Ewing, Croll and Fischer all won individual events on the day. Bauer was first in the 100 backstroke (54.79) and Watterson was a close second in 58.06. Ewing was the fastest swimmer in the 1000 free in 10:31.61 and Jacob Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) tabbed second in 10:41.70. Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) swept the event with third place in 10:57.05.

The 50 free belonged to Fischer in 22.79, before Croll won the 100 free in 49.88. Cole Dombrosky (Mount Pleasant, PA/Mount Pleasant) was 1.61 seconds before for runner up in 51.49.

Steven Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) had the top Behrend times in three events. He first won the 200 butterfly in 2:07.29 and then placed second in the 100 butterfly (55.29). Owens picked up his second individual win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.59. Mattson was second in the 400 IM with a close time of 4:39.87.

Matthew Kuchcinski (North East, PA/North East) keeps his winning streak alive on both diving boards. On the one-meter board, he won with a score of 281.80. He later posted a score of 224.50 on the three-meter for first place.

In the breaststroke events, Babik led with second place in the 100 (1:03.44) and the 200 (2:21.11). Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) was third in both events.

The team of Bauer, Babik, Owens and Fischer were second in the opening 200 medley relay (1:42.90).

Behrend returns to action on Dec. 1-3 at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invite.
