FREDONIA, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team continues to dominate and remain in first place after day two of the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday.
The Lions had 565.5 points after two days of competition with second-place Allegheny nearly 200 points behind with a score of 351. John Carroll is in third with 334.5 points.
Michael Bauer (Northampton, PA/Northampton) was an individual winner on the night, touching first in the 100 backstroke in 51.96. Liam Watterson (Brentwood, PA/Baldwin) was a close third with a time of 54.06.
Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) fell short of winning the 200 freestyle to Brandon Amthor of SUNY Brockport. He was runner up with a time of 1:43.40, just .33 seconds shy of first. Patterson was one of four swimmers in the top eight for Behrend. Ryan Siggins (Erie, PA/Iroquois) came in fifth (1:47.73), Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) in seventh (1:49.21) and Cole Dombrosky (Mount Pleasant, PA/Mount Pleasant) in eighth (1:50.65).
Brady Mattson (Wilmington, DE/Delaware Military Academy) led the Lions in the 400 IM, finishing third with a time of 4:21.13. Nathan Wagner (Ypsilanti, MI/Lincoln) also competed in the "A" final and was seventh overall with a time of 4:35.64.
Noah Babik (Penn Township, PA/Penn Trafford) tallied a time of 59.76 in the 100 breaststroke for fourth overall and first on the team. In the same event, Ryan Elsey (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) was ninth (1:01.39).
In the 100 butterfly, Steven Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) was fifth overall in 54.26. Owens also swam a leg on the third-place 200 medley relay. He joined Patterson, Babik, and Owens for third with a time of 1:37.92.
Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the Fredonia Blue Devin Invite.
