Men's Swimming and Diving All-Conference Announced

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend men's swimming senior Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Swimmer of the Year and freshman Chase Bietz (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield Area) was chosen Newcomer of the Year to headline the All-AMCC Team, announced on Wednesday. 

Behrend had 12 different student athletes collectively earn 32 first-team honors and 13 second team. Head coach Jen Wallace earned her eighth Men's Coach of the Year Award for leading the Lions to their 13th straight AMCC Championship.  

Patterson was named Swimmer of the Year for the second straight season. He won three individual events and four relays at championships, while recording two NCAA B cut times. Patterson set 15 records over the weekend, including the AMCC Meet, Open and Team record in the 100 freestyle (46.28) and the AMCC Meet and Pool records in the 200 backstroke (1:49.74). The remaining 10 records were broken in four relay events. 

Bietz was a seven-time All-Conference selection, being named to the first team in all seven at the AMCC Championships. He won the 200 IM in a new AMCC record (1:54.15) and then set a new pool record in the 100 breaststroke, touching in 57.11. He broke two records on the way to being named AMCC Champion in the 200 breaststroke, a new AMCC Meet and pool record with a time of 2:05.73. Bietz was also a part of four relays that broke 10 total records.
