Men's Tennis Shuts Out DeSales in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, SC – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team opened up their spring break trip with a 9-0 win over DeSales in non-conference action on Monday morning in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The Lions were also scheduled to play Defiance tonight, but were rained out and will face the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Behrend breezed through the doubles matches, giving up six game points total to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) posted an 8-1 win over brothers Jorey and Josh Ferraro at No. 1 doubles. Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) followed with an 8-2 decision.

At No. 3 doubles, Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) and Michael Duckett (Girard, PA/Fairview) completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory over Brian Hayhurst and Ahmad Kanan.

Four of the six doubles players also won their singles matches. Apgar continued in the No. 1 spot for a 6-2, 6-1 win and Russell earned a 6-0, 6-1 decision at second singles.

McFarland and Dollard played at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. McFarland tallied the same score as Russell (6-0, 6-1) and Dollard posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) defeated Jake McKinney 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, while Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) registered a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Eastern Nazarene at 2 p.m.
