Men's Tennis Tops Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis only dropped one doubles match to defeat Penn State Altoona 8-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday evening.

The Lions (8-7, 2-0 AMCC) collected their second conference win of the season thanks to four players picking up two wins on the night, starting with Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) at No. 1 doubles.

The pair posted an 8-1 decision for a 1-0 lead in the match. Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) and Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) got the second victory with an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles.

Behrend fell by a close 9-8 score at No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Apgar, playing at No. 1 singles, only lost one match point to defeat Jake Colledge 6-0, 6-1. The Lions won the next five singles matches, including a 6-0, 6-2 decision by Russell in the No. 2 spot.

Dollard and McFarland were winners at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Dollard tallied a score of 6-2, 6-2, while McFarland recorded a 7-6, 6-0 victory.

At No. 5 singles, Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hiltop) registered a 7-6, 6-2 score over Carlos CeVellas. The final win went to Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) at No. 6 easily with a 6-1, 6-2 decision.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow at Mt. Aloysius. Match time is 11 a.m.
