Men's Tennis Blanks Mt. Aloysius in AMCC Action

CRESSON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis picked up their third straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) win with a 9-0 victory over Mt. Aloysius on Saturday.

The Lions (9-7, 3-0 AMCC) swept the Mounties for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Behrend went 3-0 in doubles play. Michael Duckett (Girard, PA/Fairview) and Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) were 8-6 winners at the third spot. The No. 2 doubles fixture of Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) and Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) were victorious once again with an 8-3 score.

Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) remained undefeated in conference play at No. 1 doubles, posting an 8-2 decision over Nick Goldyn and Matt Hample.

In six singles matches, Behrend only gave up 17 match points. Apgar was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles, followed by Russell at No. 2 spot with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

No. 3 singles highlighted Dollard with a 6-2, 6-3 score, while McFarland posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4.

Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hiltop) and Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) rounded out the singles matches for Behrend. Burnheimer, a staple at No. 5 singles, won 6-1, 6-3 and Palmer registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The Lions return to action on Friday against Pitt-Bradford. Match time is 5 p.m.
