Men's Tennis Ready For AMCC Championship Weekend

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team will be competing for their seventh Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship this weekend at Westwood Racquet Club on Saturday and Sunday.

The Lions enter the championship as the No. 2 seed after posting a 4-1 mark in regular-conference play. Behrend's only loss was a 7-2 decision to undefeated and No. 1 seed Franciscan. The Lions will face No. 3 Penn State Altoona on Saturday in the second semifinal, beginning at approximately 6 p.m. The Barons will take on No. 4 Mt. Aloysius in the opening semifinal at 3:30 p.m.

The championship match is slated for Sunday, April 23 at 11:30 a.m. The winner will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Behrend is led junior Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and freshman Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair), who finished the regular season 5-0 in conference singles action at the No. 1 and 2 spot, respectively. The duo also paired up at No. 1 doubles for a 4-1 AMCC record.

Senior Jeremy Burnheimer (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) only surrendered one match at No. 5 singles, while freshman Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) went 4-1 at No. 3 singles.

The Lions are looking for their first AMCC title since 2012. Franciscan has claimed the crown the last four years.
