Men's Tennis Blanks Westminster

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team won their second straight shu0out victory with a 9-0 decision over Westminster in non-conference action at Westwood Racquet Club on Friday night.

The Lions (3-3) swept the doubles and singles matches to record their third win of the season. Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) did not allow a match point at No. 1 doubles to get the match going with an 8-0 victory.

Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) and Michael Duckett (Girard, PA/Fairview) made up the No. 2 doubles team for an 8-2 victory, while Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to take a 3-0 lead into singles action.

At No. 5 singles, McFarland blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 1 singles, Apgar posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision for a 5-0 advantage.

Russell won his second match of the day at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4, and Dollard followed at 6-4, 7-5 at the third singles spot.

Michael Funera (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles for the second match in a row and Duckett completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles for Behrend.

The Lions return to action on tomorrow at Ohio Northern. Match time is at 2 p.m.
