Men's Tennis On A Roll; Lions Defeat Albion

PALMETTO DUNES, SC – Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) remain undefeated in singles and doubles action over spring break, helping the Penn State Behrend men's tennis team past Albion 7-2 on Thursday afternoon.

The pair edged Josh McGarry and Nick Kinachtchouk 8-6 at No. 1 singles to even the match at 1-all. Albion earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles to start, but the Lions (4-4) also got a 9-7 decision from Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) and Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) at third doubles to make it 2-1 in the match.

Russell earned the first singles win with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Robert Joerg at No. 2 and Apgar followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over McGarry at the top spot to extend the lead to 4-1.

McFarland secured Behrend's third straight victory with a 6-2, 6-0 score over Patrick Barclay at No. 5 singles.

Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) and Belden Tuttle (Fairview, PA/Fairview) tallied the last two singles wins for the Lions. Dollard posted a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Israel Trevino at the third spot, while Tuttle captured the sixth spot, 6-2, 6-2.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Wartburg at 3:30 p.m.
