Men's Tennis Finishes Second at AMCC Championship

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team fell to Franciscan 5-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship match on Sunday morning at Westwood Racquet Club.

The Barons won their sixth straight conference championship by sweeping the doubles and retiring two of the six singles for victory.

Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) and Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) dropped a close 8-6 match at No. 1 doubles to Jarek Sulak and Jake Haffner. At No. 2 doubles, Brenden Dollard (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) and Brent McFarland (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) fell to John Gallagher and Connor Jooste, 8-4.

Jack Galla and Luke Conrad also posted an 8-4 decision against Noah Colvin (Warren, PA/Warren) and Michael Duckett (Girard, PA/Fairview) at third doubles for a 3-0 lead in the match.

Dollard and Funera were the lone players who completed their singles matches. At No. 3, Gallagher posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Dollard and then Conrad earned a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Funera at fourth singles.

The Lions advanced to the championship after defeating Penn State Altoona 5-0 in the semifinals on Saturday evening.  Apgar and McFarland were double winners for Behrend.
