Men's Indoor Track & Field Captures Kenyon College Classic

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend men's indoor track & field team won the Kenyon College Classic hosted by the Lords on Saturday.

The Lions finished with 113 points for 17 events for first, while Wittenberg took second (83), Wooster was third (79) and Bethany came in fourth (73).

Luke Patten (West Middlesex, PA/West Middlesex) and Mitch Obenrader (Fryburg, PA/North Clarion) continue to dominate for Behrend. Patton won the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 4.94m (16.2 ft) for a new school and Kenyon facility record. Obenrader won the shotput in 16.43m (53.9 ft), while Brian Hazel (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) was fifth in the throwing event (12.46m).

The 4x200 relay were also winners on the day. Kurt Eberhardt (Gibsonia, PA/Hampton), Michael Cross (Fairview, PA/Fairview), Devin Ross (Shenango, PA/Shenango) and Grant Rodgers (Oil City, PA/Oil City) tallied a winning time of 1:33.74.

In addition to the relay, Rodgers was the top finisher for Behrend in the long jump with second place in 6.20m (20-04.25).

Ryan Horstman (Butler, PA/Butler), Matthew Grafton (Worthington, PA/Kittanning), and Chris Drozynski (Stoneboro, PA/Lakeview) also picked up runner-up medals on the day. Horstman was second in the triple jump in 12.51m (41-05) and Grafton was second in the 400m (51.53). Drozynski paced the Lions in the one-mile run, crossing the line in 4:31.47 for second and earning eight points.

In the 3000m, the Lions had back-to-back finishes in Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville) and Jarrod Lipsey (Kersey, PA/St. Mary's Area). Buffington took third in 9:18.55 and Lipsey was three seconds behind for fourth (9:21.99).

In the 60m hurdles, Colby Tarr (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) placed fourth (8.74) and Marcus Haesler (North East, PA/North East) came in seventh overall (8.99). In the same race without the hurdles, Oluwaseun Babalola came in fourth with a time of 7.20.

The final 4x400 relay of Ross, Aaron Peters (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), Eberhardt and Grafton were able to place fourth in 3:36.41.

Behrend returns to action on Friday at the Denison Last Chance Meet.
