Men's Track and Field Returns to SPIRE

GENEVA, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team returned to Spire this weekend after a trip there last Saturday.

Starting the event on Friday night, freshman Zach Wortman (St. Mary's, PA/Elk County Catholic) competed in the 5K where he broke a school record for the second time in six days with a 17th place finish and a time of 15:34.75.

The 4x800 relay, comprised of Chris Drozynski (Stoneboro, PA/Lakeview), Michael Cross (Fairview, PA/Fairview), Colton Barger (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy), and Greg Graf (South Park, PA/South Park), qualified for Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships with a time of 8:06, earning second place. 

On Saturday, the men's 4x400 punched their ticket to the ECAC championships with a qualifying time of 3:27.32 and a ninth place finish. Devin Ross (Shenango, PA/Shenango) ran a split time of 52.1, Barger at 51.7, Graf at 52.4, and Rodgers closed it out with a time of 50.8.

Kyle Grimm (Beaver, PA/Beaver Area) and Jack Georgetson (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) each qualified for the ECAC championships in the pole vault event. Both jumped at a height of 4.28m, which earned them a sixth and seventh place finish, respectively.

Grant Rodgers (Oil City, PA/Oil City) finished with an ECAC qualifying time 22.84 in the 200m.

In the 600m, Cross finished in 11th place with a time of 1:25.02. Alex Kubala (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) took part in the 3000m run where he finished in ninth place with a final time of 9:47.51.

In the long and high jump, Braeden Smith (Erie, PA/Seneca) and Grant Rodgers (Oil City, PA/Oil City) each earned spots in the Top 15. Rodgers jumped a distance of 6.30m while Smith jumped a height of 1.86m, good enough for the 11th and 13th spots, respectively.

The Lions travel to Mount Union next Saturday. The meet starts at 10 a.m.
