Michael, Yenchik Tab ECAC Honors

ERIE, Pa. – Matt Michael (Erie, PA/Iroquois) and Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan) were named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North Division III Track and Field Athletes of the Week, announced on Wednesday.

After being named as Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Athletes of the Week, both runners garnered ECAC Field Athlete of the Week after this week's performance at the Slippery Rock Open and Behrend Invitational.

At Slippery Rock, Michael extended his top conference mark of 13.75m with a fourth-place finish in the shot put. In addition to his performance in the shot put, he threw for eighth in the discus and ninth in the hammer. On Saturday at the Behrend Invite, Michael tossed 13.09m for third in the shot put, and had season best marks in the discus at 40.14m and 38.90m in the hammer for third and seventh, respectively. Also, in his first toss in the javelin, he threw 38.11m for fifth place. 

As for Yenchik, she set a new Penn State Behrend school record in the pole vault at the SRU Open, jumping at a height of 3.61m for sixth-place, ranking her in the top 25 in the NCAA. Then on their home meet, she took first in the pole vault with a 3.36m mark while also placing fifth in the triple jump with a 10.23m mark for an ECAC qualifier. Yenchik continued on the day to earn third in the long jump with a 4.56m leap and fourth in the high jump at 1.25m. She also took part in track events, taking second in the 4x100m relay, third in the 100m at 13.10, and sixth in the 200m with a time of 27.58.
