Men’s Track & Field Lead after Day One of CSAC Championships

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team hold the top spot at the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championships after day one of the two-day event. The Lions have a combined score of 73, edging the second-place Marywood University with 65 points.

The Lions took the top four finishes in the pole vault event. Jack Georgetson (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) led things off with a first-place finish of 4.40m, while Kyle Grimm (Beaver, PA/Beaver Area) and Kevin Stebick (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) tallied second and third finishes, respectively, with a height of 4.25m. Elijah Dangrow (Greenville, PA/Greenville) rounded out the final four, leaping at 4.10m.

In the javelin, Ethan Rhodes (Wyalusing, PA/ Wyalusing), Colby Tarr (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands), and Jonathan Wu (Action, MA/Acton Boxborough) placed in the top 10. Rhodes threw a distance of 49.91m for second place, while Tarr was just behind with a distance of 47.69m for third. Wu took eighth with a final toss of 38.72m.

John LaRoche (Union City, PA/Seneca) and Matt Michael (Erie, PA/Iroquois) competed in the hammer throw, where both of them threw personal bests. LaRoche led the charge with an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying mark of 42.70m for second place. Michael placed fourth in the event, throwing a length of 39.82m.

Ian Griffith (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) and Timothy Wheeler (Albion, PA/Northwestern) both took part in the 10000m run. Griffith finished the race in 33:57.89 for second place. Wheeler came in at 36:11.74 for a sixth-place finish.

In the 1500m run, Chris Drozynski (Stoneboro, PA/Lakeview) and Alex Kubala (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) scored for the Lions. Drozynski finished in sixth-place at 4:10.12 while Kubala rounded out the top eight with a time of 4:14.43.

The CSAC Championships will resume tomorrow starting at 10 a.m.
