High-Powered Offense Lifts Behrend Past Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY  – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team had four players with double-figure kills led by Josh Oertly's (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) team-best 14 to defeat Hilbert 3-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday night.

After falling in the first set to the Hawks (0-12) by a score of 25-21, the Lions (6-4) won the next three sets 25-17, 25-11 and 25-18. As a team, Behrend tallied a season-high 61 kills and posted 56 digs, the second most this year.

Eric Theiss (Plum, PA/Plum) posted 13 kills and seven digs, while Derek Polishen (Plum, PA/Plum) hit .458 behind 11 kills to go with six digs and three blocks.

Defensively, Joe Price (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had a team-high 14 digs. Mitch Farabaugh (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) tied with 11 digs each. Farabaugh also handed out 42 assists.  Sheehan added six kills, two aces and two assists to his stat line.

Korey Schwab led Hilbert, knocking down 16 of their 31 kills on the night.

Behrend returns to action on Thursday at Thiel. Match begins at 7 p.m.
