Lions Fall to No. 15 Elmira and Stevenson

ELMIRA, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses, falling to No. 15 Elmira and Stevenson 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (6-8, 0-3 UVC) dropped a three-set match to the Eagles (15-8, 2-1 UVC) in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) action (25-21, 25-17, 25-20). In the second match, Stevenson posted a 25-18, 25-15, 25-19) victory over Behrend.

Against Elmira, Trenton Munk (Baden, PA/Ambridge) hit .700 for the match going 7-for-10 with no errors.  Joe Price (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) led with eight digs and Kevin Kaplon (Rural Valley, PA/West Shamokin) had a season-best five blocks.

Tied at 17-all in the first set, Matthew Buffum served up two aces and got a kill from Mike Ellison to push the lead to 22-18. Elmira got its final three points on kills with the last coming from Dylan Kuhn for a 25-21 win.

The Eagles held the Lions to just 14 kills over the next two sets to post 25-17 and 25-20 set wins for the match.

In the second match against Stevenson, Eric Theiss (Plum, PA/Plum) led with seven kills and Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) posted a team-best seven digs.

Stevenson trailed in the opening points of the first set and never trailed again in the match for a 3-0 victory. The Lions went ahead 3-1 to start, before Stevenson pulled away at 10-5 and held on for a 25-18 win.

In the second set, Stevenson led by nine points thanks to a service error to lead to set point. Patrick Schuyler got the final kill for a 25-15 decision. Stevenson completed the sweep with a three-set 25-19 victory.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against D'Youville. Match begins at 7 p.m.
