Volleyball Falls Twice at Keuka Tournament

KEUKA PARK, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team fell twice on the final day of the Keuka Tournament, dropping a 3-0 decision to the hosts before suffering a 3-2 heartbreaking loss to Elms on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (1-4) took a 2-1 in the nightcap against Elms and then were forced to a fifth set where they secured the win on a kills. The call was reversed by the referee and Elms was able to win the match 18-16.

Elms won the first set 25-22 and Behrend came back 25-17, 25-17 to get one set away from the victory. Despite Elms winning 25-14, the Lions thought they had their second win until the point was overturned and Elms got its second chance.

Trenton Munk (Baden, PA/Ambridge) recorded 13 kills on 18 attempts with no errors to go with seven blocks. Josh Oertly (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) contributed 10 kills, four digs and three blocks. Anthony Sprentz (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) handed out 22 assists and Tyler Herrmann (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) added seven kills, four digs, three blocks and one ace.

In the opener, Keuka posted a 25-19, 26-24 and 25-18 victory. Oertly paced the Behrend with 12 kills and four blocks. Cameron Crow (State College, PA/State College) had a team-best seven digs. Sprentz got 17 more assists, while Robert McMaster (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) was able to record 10 assists.

The Lions look to bounce back on Friday against Illinois Tech in the Junker Center. Match begins at 7 p.m.
